Title: the Wrong Decision
Fandom: Torchwood/Doctor Who (because I’m borrowing characters)
Genre: AU totally, no aliens, romance, drama
Pairings: Jack/omc, Jack/Ianto, Ianto/Lisa, others as well
Disclaimer: I do not own Torchwood or Doctor Who, BBC does and we all saw what they did to them.
Summary: They both took the wrong decision. Will they ever be able to find real love?

Part one, II
Ianto found Werth waiting for him in his bedroom.
“You didn’t stay long with us.”
“I enjoyed the night out.”
“You were missed.”
“I most certainly did. Werth, you’re the one who’s going to be missed. I’m the odd brother who knows to play the piano.”
“Owen disagrees.”
“Owen’s biased. And he thinks he owes me.”
“Anyway…” Werth was suddenly nervous.
“What is it? I somehow don’t think you came here for Owen.”
“Well, no, not really. What do you think of Jack? As you have met him now…” He asked sitting down on the bed next to Ianto who had already taken off his jacket and was pulling his tie off.
“Why are you asking me? Again, if I may add!”
“No reason…”
“Jack Harkness? He’s…” Ianto stopped trying to find the right word to describe Jack. “Charismatic, I’d say. He’s good, and he knows what he wants. Of course he’s old enough… hey don’t push! And don’t hit me. He’s old, you know. At least thirty five.” Werth pushed Ianto back on the bed and started tickling him. “He’s good, OK? He’s good!” Ianto finally relented and Werth pulled him back up to sit.
“Thanks.”
“What for?”
“Just thanks.” Werth left Ianto alone and went to his own room to think about possibilities, love and Jack Harkness.
The next morning Jack showed Werth his new acquire and the only thing he could do was run to Ianto’s room, drape an arm around his shoulder and drag him to the lounge.
Ianto’s eyes widened when he saw what was there. He walked slowly there and let his fingers touch, his hands memorise the feeling. It was beautiful. Ianto’s soft gaze travelled to Jack, his hands kept touching the flat surface gently.
“It’s an Imperial Bösendorfer.” He said totally in awe.
“Yes, it belonged to my grandfather. This is one of the first that were built in the 1900s.” Jack replied smiling. “Aren’t you going to play something for us?”
Ianto sat down carefully, his fingers still caressing the polished wood before descending on the keys that were 9 more than usual. About four minutes later he stopped. His playing of Op. 23 No 5 from Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Prelude in G minor had everyone in the room wishing for more. Everyone in the room applauded him with Werth smiling broadly.
“That’s my brilliant brother. And one day everyone will be listening to him.” Werth said loudly.
“I say that you are right.” Jack agreed. “You’re better than I thought possible.” He continued as he walked close to Ianto and leaned on top of the piano.
Ianto’s eyes left the piano and looked at Jack smiling.
“That’s a true piece of art.”
The other members of the group had decided to go for a picnic that day. Ianto looked up and Werth from where he was sitting on the piano and then at Jack.
“May I stay here?” He asked hopefully.
“Oh come one, Ianto. I thought you had come here to have fun…”
“I will have fun!”
“…and not close yourself inside another house with another piano.” Ianto’s eyes widened and he pouted as he stared up at his brother, and Jack grinned.
“I think that you just lost this round, Werth.” Jack said and pulled Werth away wrapping his arm around the younger man’s shoulders. “Have fun, Ianto.”
*
Later that night, Jack turned around in his bed unable to sleep despite the long hours of walking… and many less decent activities he had indulged with Werth.
He got up, and tried to find something to read and failed. He dressed and went out to walk in the fresh air. Reaching in the beach he saw a lean man dressed in jeans walking along the sea. He instantly recognised him and walked close to him wrapping his arms around the waist of the other man.
“There you are.” He whispered close to his ear noticing the stiffening of the other’s body. “Hey, gorgeous, it’s only me.” He said kissing the soft skin on the man’s neck. It smelled differently; fresh and minty. “Did you change your soap?”
The other man turned around and Jack stared at frightened blue eyes; a pair of blue eyes that were darker and slightly bigger than the one he was used to. Still he couldn’t make his brain give the order to unwrap his arms from around the lithe body. Instead he leaned forward and his lips touched the other man’s mouth, slowly at first, more passionately as the kiss progressed.
He was pressed to stop by two hands that had sneaked in his chest and pushed back at him. Anger had come to be paired with fear and Jack was surprised and compelled by those eyes. The other man didn’t say anything to him. He just walked in fast steps back to the house while Jack stood there wondering what had happened.
He could always say he had mixed Ianto to Werth, and that had been the truth… until he had stared at those eyes. If Jack wanted to be honest with himself, and despite lying to numerous other people he didn’t make a habit of lying to himself, he knew it was Ianto he was kissing. And strangely enough it was Ianto he wanted to kiss.
He walked a bit more in the secluded part of the beach trying to understand the unfamiliar feelings. He had honestly been attracted to Werth, not thinking to give the younger Jones a second thought. What had changed? And why?
*
Ianto ran to reach the house, conflicted emotions made their presence known. Despite Werth’s homosexuality, Ianto had never considered it for himself. The few times he’d been attracted to a person it had been a girl. He had honestly believed he loved Lisa until she had shown her real self the day previously. And now his mind was ruled by thoughts of another man. He didn’t mind that, not really. It was the specific man that he had the thoughts about that woke the conflicting emotions. Add the fact that Jack thought he was kissing Werth made one unhappy Ianto Jones.
He breathed heavily as he took off his jacket and sat down on his bed. His walk had not helped him at all; sleep was still elusive, even more so than before.
The next morning he got down late hoping that Jack and Werth wouldn’t be there. His plan was to return home and never think of the previous night again. Instead he found himself engulfed in a familiar embrace.
“John? Rose! So nice to see you here.” Concerned brown eyes stared at him.
“Are you alright Ianto?”
“Yes, why shouldn’t I?” John turned back while Rose took his place giving Ianto a hug whispering that she had missed him.
“Well it’s not my fault that you decided to follow John in the New World and let us all alone.” Ianto tried to joke.
“Jack I don’t think this excursion helped my ex pupil much. He seems pale… well, paler than usual.” John said catching Jack’s look to Ianto.
He and Rose had arrived earlier after Jack’s phone call. Despite the differences in the two men’s characters, Jack and John were good friends. When he first saw his old friend in the company of the older Jones, John was convinced Werth had caught Jack’s eye. Now, as Ianto had entered the picture, he just wasn’t certain any more.
Werth went close to his brother.
“If you’ll excuse the two of us, I have something that I want to show to my brother. You three have fun.”
“Oh we will. We will.” Jack said with a wink and Ianto just had to roll his eyes at the man’s dreadful innuendo.
Werth pulled him by the elbow out and after a good long walk filled with silence Ianto had enough.
“You know I’m the one who’s the silent, quiet one.” He said stopping his brother and turning him around to look at him. “What’s the problem?”
“I’m in love.”
Ianto laughed. “Well, tell me a new one. You’re always in love, Werth!”
“This time is different! This time is real.”
Ianto’s heart clenched as he remembered Jack’s intense look the previous night.
“With whom?”
“Who do you think?”
“We’re not going to play the twenty questions, Werth. Tell me who is it?” Ianto wished the answer was different than the one he expected.
“Jack.” Unfortunately his wish wasn’t heard.
“Jack Harkness?” Werth’s eyes brightened at the sound of the same.
“Who else?”
“But, you just met him!”
“I know, but I have never felt like this before. This is different Ianto, believe me. I love him… I’d like to spend the rest of my life with him.” Ianto hugged Werth and tried to calm his breathing. He had a decision to make…
“If you love him then there’s no way he won’t love you back.”
They returned to Jack’s home to find Rose sitting with Owen, Tosh and Gwen.
“Where’s John?” Ianto asked Rose when at the same time Werth covered Ianto’s question with one of his own.
“Where’s Jack?”
Rose laughed at them.
“To answer both questions John’s with Jack… somewhere. They had something to talk about. They didn’t specify what.”
In the meantime, John was sitting opposite Jack trying to gauge his reactions.
“So what exactly has brought you to Wales, Jack?”
“Luck probably.” He replied, crossing his right leg over the other.
“Luck? You never believed in luck, Jack.”
“Yes, but look where it got me!”
“That was you and you alone; not luck. Never luck.”
“What do you want to know, John?”
“When I saw you and Werth, I thought there was something between you two. And despite the age difference… oh shut up Jack, there is age difference, I actually liked that I saw you like that.”
“You make me happy, Doc…”
“Don’t call me that, I hate it.”
“I know…” Jack said grinning at his friend. John had enough of this.
“So what about Ianto?”
Jack’s grin was replaced but a thoughtful expression.
“What about him?”
“Jack! Stop this. I know you too well to be fooled by you.”
“Fooled? I don’t understand you, John.”
“Werth and Ianto are twins…”
“Yep, I know that.”
“But they are not the same person.”
“I know that too…” Jack said quietly not wanting to be heard.
“And Ianto just broke up with his girlfriend. He doesn’t need anything or anyone else in his life right now. He needs to commit to his art.”
“Why are you telling me all these, Doc?”
“Because I saw how you looked at Ianto, Jack.”
“You’re wrong.”
“I hope so.”
“Ianto’s a kid, John….”
“He’s Werht’s twin and you already admitted…”
“I didn’t admit anything and they’re different, you said so.”
“OK then. I’ll take your word for it, stupid me.”
Jack got up and went to sit behind his desk. John turned around before opening the door and stared down at him.
“Stay away from Ianto.”
Jack sighed. How many times did he have to say he didn’t care about Ianto Jones?
Jack and John returned to the sitting room to find Jack’s guests deep in conversation about their future plans.
“What about you Ianto? Have you reached in any decision, yet?” Owen was asking the younger man when they came in.
“Not really Owen. John asked me to go with him but I’m not certain yet.”
“Because he’s too young to make his own decisions. If he comes with me, in ten years he’ll be the most famous pianist in the world. He had the talent, he’s got the looks, and that helps with superficial fellows like Jack here or Rose..”
“Hey, shut up.” His sister interrupted him but he continued steadfastly.
“…and he’s got the means, namely me.” John added with a bright smile.
